Guillermo Del Toro’s lifelong allegiance to and affinity for monsters has served him well in the creation of the most macabre and deeply felt cinematic works, and his tender, brutal and altogether lovely adaptation of Mary Shelley‘s novel, from its impeccable craft to its soulful performances (especially Jacob Elordi as The Creature), ranks among his very best. A stunningly gorgeous and grotesque portrait of grace.
